She is the daughter of Sir Sydney Mitchell and Cecile Mitchell. She has a brother named Arthur Mitchell.

Her father was the CEO and partial owner of a Manhattan furniture manufacturing company and served as Beth El Synagogue’s president in New Rochelle.

Her mother was an administrator at the New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan.

Andrea attended New Rochelle High School and later pursued her higher education at the University of Pennsylvania. 1967, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature.

While at Penn, she served as the news director of the student radio station WXPN. Mitchell then began her career in journalism as a reporter at KYW radio in Philadelphia, where she gained recognition as the station’s City Hall correspondent.

Andrea Mitchell has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Gil Jackson, but the couple divorced in the 1970s. In 1997, she married Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve Chair.

Their relationship had been established over a lengthy period before their marriage. Mitchell has been open about her battle with breast cancer, which was diagnosed in 2011. Fortunately, it was caught early and successfully treated.
